Bint Marscay, winner of the 1993 , has died in Kentucky aged 28.

The mare had been at the Old Friends Farm retirement home for horses since 2013.

“We are sorry to report that yesterday we said goodbye to our beautiful mare, Bint Marscay. It was our great privilege to care for this Australian champion since 2013., Binty. You will be deeply missed,” Old Friends said on its Facebook page.

After beginning her broodmare career in Australia where she produced stakes winner Mannington, Bint Marscay went to Vinery in Lexington, Kentucky.

Reproductive issues meant she only produced a few foals, among them Group One winner Bollinger who in turn was the dam of Louisiana Derby winner Friesian Fire.

Bint Marscay was the first of trainer 's four Golden Slipper winners and the third for Mick Dittman.

Trainer , one of four brothers who trained under the FBI banner headed by Lee, tweeted his sorrow on her death.

“@Oldfriendsfarm kindly informed me of her imminent passing yesterday. What a wonderful organisation. They will be heartbroken. Bint Marscay gave so much and asked for so little..like all horses. She is still the 2yo in Aus racing. RIP old girl.” he said.
