Speed star has atoned for a shock first-up defeat but it was the run of second-placed that had punters talking after the Open at the .

“I was confident he would improve today even though it was a hot field,” she said.

White, who is deputy head of Clifton High School on the Darling Downs, is keen to take Spurcraft south for the autumn .

“I think he would be up to the short course races in Sydney,” she said.

White has an extra reason to be excited about Spurcraft because she now has a share in the gelding's sire Jet Spur.

Tumbler was a clear last at the 600m but rattled home to finish second.

The leader time sectional was 33.32 seconds for the final 600m, which means Tumbler ran very close to an outstanding 32.5 seconds for her sectional.

“You can't give starts but it was a good run,” trainer said.
